Our Process

  • SHARE WHAT YOU NEED

Tell me about any dietary needs, preferences, and what support looks like for you right now.

  • CONNECT & PLAN TOGETHER

A gentle 30-minute call to talk through meals, your schedule, and what would feel most supportive.

  • IN-HOME SUPPORT

I come into your home to prepare meals and offer steady, compassionate presence.

Nourishment + Support

For most of human history, death was not handled by institutions - it was held within the home and the community. Family members, neighbors, and elders gathered to care for the dying, prepare meals, sit in vigil, and support those left behind.

What we now call a “death doula” is a return to that tradition - offering presence, guidance, and care through one of life’s most human experiences. In a culture that has largely moved death out of sight, I am working to restore something we’ve always known: that no one is meant to move through loss alone.

The Basic Plate offers nourishment and emotional support during the end-of-life experiences.

Whether you’re supporting someone at the end of life, caring for aging parents, grieving a loss, or showing up for someone who is - We focus on preparing healthy meals for you and your family. We are in-home grief support centered in the kitchen, with nutrient dense meals and meaningful connection when you need it most.

What To Expect

Each Visit
Visits are a minimum of 4 hours. During that time, I prepare 3 nourishing meals, with extra time often used for snacks or breakfast prep.

Before We Meet
We’ll connect in advance to create your menu together. I’ll offer suggestions, and we’ll build a grocery list that you can review and adjust.

Groceries
Once the list is finalized, you can shop yourself or have me handle it for you.
Grocery shopping is available for a $50 fee and is added to your visit total.

Ongoing Support
Support is typically most helpful in the first 40 days after a loss, with many families continuing for 3–6 months depending on their needs.

Additional Time
If you need more support during a visit, extra hours can be added at $75/hour.
